Construction Traineeship

KR Group is delighted to welcome applicants for the opportunity to earn a Level 2 SVQ in Cladding Operations.

This is an opportunity for those interested in a career in construction, primarily cladding; or those who are already in the industry and would like to develop their knowledge in cladding-installation.

Like an apprenticeship, this programme will allow the applicant to earn money whilst learning onsite. Upon completion of the three-year traineeship, the applicant will obtain an SVQ in Cladding Occupations (Construction), alongside the relevant industry experience and further qualifications gained.

We hope to offer 4 places on this program at any given time. Although there are no formal qualification requirements, we will be looking for applicants that express a good work ethic and strong interest in the construction industry. Some practical experience would also be beneficial for this role.

Applicants must be at least 17 years old and live within commuting distance of our Headquarters in Newburgh, Aberdeenshire, AB41 6AN. Access to reliable transportation is required.

The traineeship will take 3 years in total, with the expectation that the candidate will stay on for at least a further year after graduation from the program.

0-9 Months

Each trainee will begin on a 40 hour week. Based at KR Group Headquarters for approximately the first 4-6 weeks, each trainee will learn all about our company and what we do. We will hold information sessions during this time, where trainees will learn about our values on a range of topics, including Health and Safety, investing in our people, and working sustainably. Trainees will also visit and work on various sites and see practical examples of site operations.

During the first 6 months, there is an expectation that each trainee will obtain their CSCS card and complete the mandatory online iHASCO training. Further certifications will be obtained over time.

A mentor will be assigned for 1-to-1 support and guidance over the course of the traineeship.

9-18 Months

At this point, the trainee will begin to undertake their official SVQ qualification, with the aim to complete the first three theory modules by their 18th month in post. This will allow three months per module for completion, sign off and submission to the SQA.

18-27 months

Following this, they will progress to learning the theory relating to cladding material, as well as completing the practical element. They will be assessed on cladding installation and knowledge of the associated products. Again, there will be three months to complete each module, taking them to the 27-month mark.

27-36 months

The trainee will experience ongoing training and consolidation of learning in any of the following areas: Steel Erecting, Cladding, Plant Maintenance, and Workshop Fabrication/Welding.

Upon Completion

After 3 years, the candidate will have completed their traineeship. However, the expectation will be that they stay with us for at least a further year, as a Cladder/Erector, to put their learning into practice at a skilled level. As a newly qualified Cladder/Erector, you will benefit from job security and the support of experienced colleagues.

The deadline for applications is Friday 1st July at midday. We hope to have the posts filled by the end of July 2022.

All qualified applicants, regardless of gender, race, or sexual orientation, are encouraged to apply.

To apply, please email Nicola Fraser at Explain why you are interested in the traineeship, detail any previous work experience and relevant qualifications, and/or include your CV.

The next step would be an informal phone/video interview, and if successful, the applicant would then be invited to an in-person interview at our HQ in Newburgh, Aberdeenshire. At this stage, applicants will be asked to show proof of their right to work in the UK.

Successful appointments are subject to two satisfactory references. For applicants without work experience, character/academic references from previous teachers will be acceptable.

Once in post, candidates will have a standard 3-month probationary period.
