Lead CAD Detailer & Project Planner

We are recruiting a Lead CAD Detailer and Project Planner to work from our HQ in Newburgh, Aberdeenshire. Thanks to continued growth, KR Group is looking to expand its Operations team, and are looking for someone who can bring energy and passion to the role, to drive results and change.

Role & Responsibilities

Main CAD / Planning Activities
  • Produce steel and cladding detailed CAD drawings.
  • Produce DXF and NC files for workshop processing of steel.
  • Produce cutting lists, materials take-offs, etc., for ordering of cladding materials.
  • Nest plasma programming.
  • Issue drawing packs to workshop and site.
  • Upkeep of drawing office procedures including storage of engineering documents.
  • Organise material requirements and procure.
  • Liaise with clients, suppliers, and professionals (architects, engineers etc) and advise on all technical/design requirements.
  • Assist with adherence and auditing for CE Marking for steel (EN1090).
  • Mentor and train new staff and trainees, acting as an ambassador for the industry.
  • Provide technical /design input into steelwork & cladding packages.
  • Model steel structures in Advance Steel.
  • Produce fabrication packages in Advance Steel for steelwork ordering/manufacture of steelwork.
  • Detail cladding in 2D AutoCAD.
  • Site survey existing structures, site measure & review any steelwork and cladding interfaces.
  • Attend technical meetings, provide design advice for steel/cladding packages.
  • Provide secondary steelwork set-out information to sub-contract designers.

Main Project Activities
  • Work with internal and external CAD Detailer(s) to ensure drawings are accurate, coordinated, and timely.
  • Tendering support – client liaison and meetings.
  • Support QS with project valuations.
  • Carry out site surveys.
  • Liaise with Managers and Supervisors throughout project to ensure deadlines met and changes/extras captured.
  • Attend meetings with design teams and raise/answer queries in a timely manner.
  • Manage and re-negotiate timescale or schedules, as necessary.
  • Contribute to resource and plant management through creation of programmes (liaising with others as required).
  • Create RAMS and ensure safety standards are met.

Supervisory / Management Activities
  • Drive performance across team to deliver results to high standard, on time.
  • Manage team workload, prioritising tasks and meeting deadlines for self AND department.
  • Give clear instruction and delegate tasks, ensuring accountability, efficiency, and completion on time.
  • Motivate, encourage, and inspire team to be all they can be.
  • Hold regular 1:1’s, carry out appraisals and provide ongoing constructive feedback.
  • Support team in understanding their roles and responsibilities and identifying training needs.
  • Induct new team members and support them to settle into new role within team.
  • Review and analyse data, providing accurate reporting as required.

General Activities
  • Communicate with team, customers, suppliers, and all external bodies in a clear, positive, and professional manner.
  • Actively promote our products, services, values, and messaging so customers buy into our brand.
  • Adhere to all company policies and procedures, adapting working practices when required to ensure maximum productivity and efficiencies.

  • Attend, participate, capture and complete assigned actions in all relevant meetings.
  • Contribute to the general running and development of the business.
  • Keep workspace, documentation and filing organised and tidy.

  • Carry out any other duties deemed necessary for the business.
